Hilton Head Inshore & Offshore Fishing Charters

A Live One can fish just about anywhere, from the shallow water creeks to the open water of the deep sea, there are fishing charters for everyone.

Take your pick from the many Hilton Head fishing charter options aboard A Live One:

Inshore Fishing Charters

Inshore Fishing includes the waters on the backcountry side of Hilton Head Island, it's marsh creeks, tidal rivers, the sounds, and the first few miles offshore of the beach but still within sight of land. These are our most popular Hilton Head fishing trips and suitable for most guests.

Coastal Fishing Charters

We use the term "Coastal" to describe nearshore fishing charters that include the first 20 miles or so out into the ocean. There are several artificial reefs, wrecks, and natural live bottom that we fish in this area throughout the year. Trips usually range from half day (4 Hours) to full day (8 Hours) in the coastal fishing zone.

Offshore Fishing Charters

Around 20 miles off of Hilton Head's shore we begin to see consistent 100+ foot depths. The further we go, the deeper it gets, and the more variety of large gamefish we tend to find. The true blue water holds bottom fish like snapper and grouper, migratory species like cobia and king mackerel, and open water pelagics like Dolphin (Mahi), Wahoo, Tuna, billfish and more.

Trips into the offshore range are typically full day charters, although we sometimes run as short as 6 hour trips into the closer end of these waters, thanks to the speed and comfort of the Freeman boat.

Gulf Stream Fishing Charters

Our furthest offshore charters target the warm water Gulf Stream current edge that runs 60+ miles off the coast of Hilton Head. This threshold region from about 60-90 miles offers the best fishing for Wahoo, Tuna, Dolphin (Mahi), and billfish like sailfish. It's a distant run and not for the timid, but it's among our very best trips.

Deep Sea Fishing Charters

The term Deep Sea Fishing has a wide range of applications. From the deep holes within sight of Hilton Head to the true "offshore" waters of the Gulf Stream, this could mean a 3 hour trip or a 12 hour trip.

A Live One is family friendly! We have options for just about any group. You know your children best, but here are our typical recommendations that work in most cases:
Stacks Image 525
Ages 1-3 — A brief outing like a 1 hour Cast Net & Dolphin Cruise is the best option. We can throw a cast net if the tide is right and catch some fish to see up close.

Ages 4-11 — We recommend a 3 to 4 hour inshore trip. Ask us for tips on timing the trip for the most productivity and comfort, especially with the younger ages.

Age 12 — Our "minimum" for open ocean trips (nearshore and mid-range offshore fishing charters), but there is some gray area depending on weather and water conditions.

Age 16 — Our minimum for more distant offshore fishing, like gulf stream trips.

Shark Fishing Charters

Peak season for coastal shark fishing is April through September, but we have options to catch and release sharks year round.

Red Drum Fishing Charters

We see monster Red Fish throughout the year in certain areas. Learn more about fishing for bull red fish on A Live One.

Cobia Fishing Charters

From April through June we can target cobia with great success at some of our nearshore artificial reefs. The speed and comfort of A Live One gets us there quickly so we can spend more time fishing!

Coastal Trolling for Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel

The nearshore coastal region holds schools of Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel which we target by trolling artificial lures with light tackle. Sometimes these schools are inshore in the Port Royal Sound or Calibogue Sound and other times we find them in the first few miles off the beach. Trolling is a nice tactic during hot weather because the boat keeps cruising at a low speed (4-10 mph) dragging the lures and waiting for the fish to hook up. We sometimes have a shot at bigger fish, too, like King Mackerel, Little Tunny, or Crevalle Jacks. Given enough time, we can also combine trolling with bottom/bait fishing at anchor during the same trip. A Live One is a great boat for trolling because it's Freeman catamaran design slices through the chop for a softer more comfortable ride.
